Counselling & Psychotherapy

Life transformation is my lived experience.  From the depth of recovery from a life threatening illness I chose a path of healing and recovery, and have since embarked on a life long mission of giving unto others the wisdom and renewed life energy that I discovered.  This discovery came from multiple sources: from deep within; from the mentoring of others on my life path; from ongoing studies; and with guidance from above.

I grew to value greatly the benefits of counselling and psychotherapeutic interventions, in building a rapport and a confidential foundation of trust with another human being.  Somebody outside my immediate circle of family and friends who I could share my authentic self with, somebody who listened, challenged me and gave me the capacity to reflect, change and move confidently forward.

Counselling

The benefits of counselling are endless, but include:

  • Increased self awareness
  • Building resilience and self confidence
  • Sharing emotional burdens
  • Support through grief and loss
  • Dealing with depression and anxiety
  • Building and maintaining better relationships
  • Developing goals and strategies
  • Dealing with stress

Whatever the personal issue is, I am trained to provide a counselling service that is holistic, supportive, meaningful, ethical and practical.

Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is similar to counselling but delves deeper into the psyche to explore the core issues that prevent us from reaching potential of which we know we are capable.  There are different types of psychotherapy.  The one I have studied heavily and use is based on the theory of Transactional Analysis (TA).  I have included a bit more information about TA below, but when using this theory in therapy, we explore the past, where the child made certain decisions about how to conduct his/her life in order to survive.  These patterns of behaviour follow the child into adulthood, but often no longer serve the adult well, and need to be adapted and changed.

Transactional Analysis

Transactional Analysis is both a theory of human personality and a system for the improvement of personal functioning and human relations.  It helps us to understand what is happening inside ourselves and others, and how we interact with each other.  There are times in life when we react in a certain situation and have no idea why.  Transactional Analysis can help you understand and then work on the emotions behind the reaction.  That way, future situations can be better handled in a healthy and peaceful manner.  Transactional Analysis provides methods to help develop self awareness, and make positive changes in our emotional, belief and behavioural systems.  It provides one with the language and understanding needed to develop new options for resolving issues that occur in life.

Most decisions on how we act and behave in this world are formed at a very early age when adult brain processing is not available to us.  In effect, when we are a midget in a world of giants, and everything seems too big and overwhelming.  This script of life, we carry on, with no adult awareness most of our lives, wondering why things always happen to us, why we repeat the same patterns.  As we explore our emotions and understand the reason behind those early decisions, we can make new choices about the way we think and feel, enabling us to re-write the script.  Transactional Analysis recognises that although each of us has different skills and competencies, we all have the ability to work through our issues, and that no one person is any better than another.

Transactional Analysis is a powerful therapeutic tool that can transform your life, just as it did mine.  I am an active member of both the Australian Transactional Analysis Association, and the International Transactional Analysis Association.

Initial consultations are $165 for the hour and subsequent sessions are $145. After the initial consult you may prefer to prepay for a further 5 sessions in advance and receive a 10% discount. Five sessions is normally a good plan for making strong progress on the changes you are experiencing.
